The Furnace Is Running and the House Is Still Cold. Start Here.
Before you assume the furnace itself has failed, rule out the four things that cause the exact same symptom for a fraction of the cost.

The furnace kicks on, you can hear the blower running, warm air is coming out of at least one vent, and the house still will not climb past 65 in the middle of January. That combination confuses people because it does not match what most of us expect a broken furnace to feel like. A dead furnace usually means no heat at all, the unit will not fire, or it fires and shuts itself back off within a minute. A furnace that runs and runs and still loses the argument with a Findlay winter is telling you something different. In most of the calls we see with exactly this complaint, the furnace itself is doing its job correctly. The heat it is making is not getting where it needs to go, or it is being lost on the way there faster than it can be replaced.
Time how long it actually runs
Before anything else, time it. A furnace that fires for eight or ten minutes, satisfies the thermostat, and shuts off, then comes back on twenty or thirty minutes later, is behaving the way it is supposed to. A furnace that runs for forty five minutes straight and the house still will not move is a different animal. That points either to a system undersized for the load it is being asked to carry, worth a real look if something changed recently like a room addition or new windows, or, far more often, to heat that is being made and then lost before it reaches the thermostat. The second case is the common one, and it has nothing to do with the furnace itself.
Check the filter before you check anything else
A filter that has gone unchanged for six months does not just make the air dirtier, it restricts how much air the blower can physically pull across the heat exchanger. Less air moving across a hot heat exchanger means the furnace works harder to deliver less warmth, and in bad cases the unit will start cycling off on a high limit safety switch, which reads to a homeowner as it keeps stopping and starting for no reason. Pull the filter out and hold it up to a window. If daylight will not pass through it, that is at minimum a real contributor to what you are dealing with. A standard one inch filter takes five minutes to swap and it is the cheapest thing on this list to rule out.
Ductwork loses heat in places nobody looks
The next most common cause is duct loss, and it tends to happen in three specific places. An unsealed joint in a basement or crawlspace run lets warm air escape into an unconditioned space instead of reaching the living room. A duct run through an unheated attic or garage with damaged or missing insulation bleeds temperature along its whole length. And an undersized or partially blocked return duct starves the blower of air to push in the first place, which chokes the whole system evenly rather than in one obvious spot. None of these will show up by looking at the furnace, because the furnace is doing exactly what it was built to do with the air it is given. If one particular room or the far end of the house runs consistently colder than the room the thermostat sits in, that is a duct symptom pointing at the specific run feeding that room, not a furnace symptom.
Zoning and dampers can starve a whole floor on purpose
If the house has any form of zoning, whether that is a full multi zone system with motorized dampers or an older setup with manual dampers set by hand in the trunk line, a damper stuck closed or a failed zone control board will send all the available heat to whichever zone is calling loudest and leave the other one cold. From inside that cold zone, it looks exactly like the furnace cannot keep up, because functionally it cannot. Walking the house floor by floor and confirming every register is actually blowing warm air takes about ten minutes and either rules this in or rules it out.
When it genuinely is the furnace
Sometimes the equipment is the problem. A cracked heat exchanger, a blower motor spinning slower than it should, or a gas valve modulating incorrectly can all produce the same runs but does not heat complaint, and none of those are things to diagnose yourself or leave running while you think it over, particularly a cracked heat exchanger, which is a carbon monoxide risk and not only a comfort one. Most of the time the actual fix is a filter, a sealed duct joint, or an adjusted damper, and it is not worth paying for a full diagnostic before ruling those out on your own. But if the filter is clean, every register in the house is blowing warm air, and the house still will not hold temperature, that is the point where it is worth having someone from Bowers actually look at the equipment instead of continuing to guess at ductwork.
